The NSPCC has been accused of giving in to a “transphobic hate campaign” after ditching trans model Munroe Bergdorf as the face of its new Childline LGBT carrier.
The charity had faced a Twitter backlash on Thursday after Ms Bergdorf helped release its Childline LGBT campaign, with The Times columnist Janice Turner accusing the charity of “hiring a porn version as a Childline ambassador”.
Others threatened to cancel direct debits to the NSPCC over the decision to partner with Ms Bergdorf, who has never worked in the porn enterprise.
No ongoing courting
On Friday, the charity publicly severed its ties with the model in a declaration responding to the backlash.
The statement said: “Munroe Bergdorf has supported the maximum latest segment of Childline’s marketing campaign which aims to aid youngsters with LGBTQ+ worries.
“Munroe has been called a Childline Ambassador. At no point has she been an Ambassador for the Charity.
“She will don’t have any ongoing relationship with Childline or the NSPCC.”
It adds: “The NSPCC does no longer help, suggest or authorise any personal statements made through any celebrities who make contributions to campaigns.
“Childline is available to kids without situation to provide guide whatever the nature in their concerns.”
